Coventry and Warwickshire-based international property company Cassidy Group are throwing their support behind the 2008 Half Marathon to make it the biggest and best ever. By becoming official title sponsor of the race, the annual event will now become The Cassidy Lady Godiva Half Marathon and their support backs up their other support for Coventry based sport including Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey team and Coventry City FC.

James Cassidy, Director of Cassidy Group, said:

" We are happy to support the event over the next three years as part of our on-going commitment to sport in the city. We see this event as a great way of involving the community in sport and healthy lifestyles and we would really like to work with the city council and other sponsors to raise the profile of the event.

There is no reason why together we cannot raise the profile of this marathon up to the level and national prominence that the Great North Run enjoys."

Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) have been selected as the official race charity for the 2008 event following a selection panel process involving sponsors, organisers and Coventry City Council.

Paul Claridge, Race Director, for the Cassidy Lady Godiva Half Marathon, said:

"We are really excited about this year's event which we want make bigger and more exciting than ever. Its great that the Cassidy Group have come on board this year as title sponsors which yet again emphasises their commitment to the city of Coventry.

Choosing an official race charity is also a very hard task and we could have chosen from a number of charities this year. The section panel in the end plumped for the Air Ambulance service and we are looking forward to raising as money as possible for their cause."

Last year's event, which included a 13.1 mile half marathon route in addition to a 2.5 mile fun run, attracted 2,500 entrants, not only from Coventry and Warwickshire but nationally and internationally.

Jo Payne, from Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance added:

"Its great that the city has decided to choose our charity as the official charity for such a great event. The service is one of only three services outside London to routinely carry a Doctor on board and in total we service a population of around 1.1 million people.

We look forward to being involved in the 2008 event and hope the profile of the service will be raised and further supported by the community."

This year's event will also include the Monty's Mini Marathon which is sponsored by Monty's Fine Lunches who have been involved in the event since its conception 3 years ago.

Change of Start Time for Fun Run

The Fun Run element of the half marathon will now start at 9:45 am - 15 minutes earlier than previously advertised and stated on the entry form. This is due to road works requiring the route to modified. The Fun Run will now start and finish in Little Park Street and the new start time will ensure that the finish line can cope with both events. As the Fun Run now takes place in the middle of the half marathon it will also guarantee great crowds and atmosphere for the start and finish!
